Born and raised just up the road from the present clinic site, Joel is the only son of Harry and Patricia Rumney. Joel's desire to become a veterinarian was born from this background of farming and animal husbandry. In his studies at the University of Guelph, Joel completed a bachelor’s degree in both biology and animal sciences before admission to the Ontario Veterinary College.
Joel realized that he wanted to come back to the family farm to establish a practice. In his final year at OVC, he designed and planned the current facility. Joel’s carpentry and building skills led to his interest and proficiency in surgery and orthopedics, areas that he enjoyed immensely throughout his career.
Growing up with a multitude of pets, Dr. Edie knows the love and richness that they bring into our lives. This appreciation was enhanced at the Ontario Veterinary College by learning how to help our animals to live healthier and longer lives. With her mother being a family physician, human medicine was an obvious choice for Dr. Edie, but her heart drew her towards veterinary medicine - a choice she has never regretted. She continues to offer thorough, attentive care to small animal patients at both of our practice locations, and is always keen to explore new innovations to benefit our practices and patients.
Dr. Suzanne was raised in Georgetown, Ontario, and spent part of every summer from the age of eight cottaging in Huronia. She joined us in 1990 after graduating from OVC, and then three years later set off with her husband for Langley, B.C. where she practised for 10 years before coming home (husband and son included), to NSVS where she has been part of our team again since 2004. In her spare time, Dr. Suzanne enjoys hiking, reading and travelling; especially to locales where she can volunteer her veterinary skills. Dr. Suzanne spends her days in the operating room, where we are fortunate to have her many years of surgical skill at work aiding our small animal patients.
Dr. Rose grew up on her family’s farm here on Rumney Road. With both parents working as veterinarians, she was exposed to a wide variety of animals from a young age, and quickly learned to love veterinary medicine. Prior to attending veterinary college she spent 4 years at the University of Guelph completing a Bachelor of Science in Animal Biology. After graduating from the OVC in 2017, Dr. Rose spent a year in Peterborough working as a mixed animal veterinarian, but has since returned home to join our team. When she is not busy working, Dr. Rose is an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast, enjoying activities such as fishing, skiing, hiking and bird-watching.
**Dr. Rose will be off until 2025 while on maternity leave. Congratulations to Dr. Rose & family!**
Dr. Shauna was born and raised in Kildare, Republic of Ireland. After receiving her veterinary degree from UCD, Dublin, in 2017, she hopped on a plane and jetted off to Canada one week later. She works with all animals, though has a special love for her equine and bovine surgical patients, as well as those of the ‘scaly’ variety. Although she had to leave her best furry friend, Molly, behind in Ireland, she quickly added a new furry friend to her collection in the form of Figaro. Over the years, he has gained partners-in-crime Jack the cat & Úna the border collie. When she is not busy in the clinic, Dr. Shauna enjoys horse riding, canoeing, singing, and working on her accent so farmers understand her on the telephone! In 2020, Dr. Shauna's work was acknowledged with the "Rising Star" Award by the Ontario Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA).
Dr. Ashley has been a small animal veterinarian with our practice since 2018. Originally from Burlington, Ontario, she attended the University of Guelph for Bio-Medical science for 2 years before moving abroad to Dublin, Ireland. After graduating with her degree in Veterinary Medicine from UCD, Dr. Ashley returned home to Canada and settled in Penetanguishene with her adorable adopted cats; Kiwi, Chloe & Chunk, and a rabbit named Flop. In her free time she enjoys training and competing in martial arts (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu), pursuing her remaining B.Sc. degree part-time, and traveling with her friends & family.
Dr. Elri holds an Honours Degree in Animal Biology from the University of Guelph, and is a 2019 graduate from the Ontario Veterinary College. After graduation, she spent the summer at Cornell University participating in the Summer Dairy Institute, an intensive dairy herd health management course for new vets. She has spent the last couple years practicing large animal medicine with all farm species... from dairy and beef cattle to small ruminants and horses. Her heart lies in dairy medicine and preventative herd health management.
Born in Toronto, Dr. Emily completed her degree in Biological Sciences at the University of Guelph, before venturing onwards to earn her veterinary degree at UCD in Dublin, Ireland. While she joined our practice as a mixed animal veterinarian in the summer of 2022, she may be a familiar face to some of our clients, having worked at the clinic while still a student. Dr. Emily offers medical and surgical services to our small and large animal patients alike. Outside of the clinic, she enjoys cycling and spending time with her beloved pets.
Dr. Tatiana graduated from the veterinary faculty of Ulyanovsk State Agricultural University, Russia in 2001. She joined our team in the summer of 2023 on a part-time basis, and will be continuing to offer her small animal medicine services primarily out of our Midland clinic location. Dr. Tatiana's focus is on wellness exams and internal medicine, with a reputation for thorough laboratory diagnostic and preventative screening care.
Dr. Zoey Garland knew she wanted to be a vet for as long as she can remember. She graduated from the University of Guelph in 2018, majoring in Animal Science, and from there went on to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 2022. She then spent her first year in practice as a small animal vet in Oshawa, ON, before joining North Simcoe as a mixed animal veterinarian. When asked what she enjoys most about being a veterinarian, Dr. Zoey replied “seeing how much impact animals have on people’s lives and being able to play a part in helping owners make well-informed choices regarding their pet’s health and wellbeing.” She shares her life with her two cats Toph (who she adopted in Australia and made the journey back to Canada with her after she graduated) and Appa. In her free time, she enjoys horseback riding, climbing, hiking, and spending time at the cottage.
Dr. Jessica was born and raised in the hills of Donegal, Ireland, where she grew up on her family's Dairy farm. Her childhood was filled with animals, from cats, dogs, and horses to the occasional rescued pigeon or magpie that she nursed back to health. Dr. Jessica graduated from University College Dublin in June 2024 with her veterinary degree. Following in the footsteps of Dr. Shauna, she decided to move to Canada on a one-way ticket, and is "excited to explore all that Canada has to offer and to adapt to driving on the right side of the road (so keep an eye out!)." Dr. Jessica also enjoy gardening, a passion she inherited from her mother, who runs a garden center back in Ireland. She's looking forward to bringing this hobby to her new home in Canada. She enjoys exploring the outdoors, and is also an avid reader. Dr. Jessica will be available to clients as a mixed animal veterinarian. "While I love all animals, great and small, if I had to pick a favorite, it would definitely be cows!
Sheila is a long time “resident” of North Simcoe Veterinary Service and Midland Veterinary Service and has logged over 3 decades of experience at the clinics. When Sheila is not running around the clinic trying to help clients and staff alike, she is watching cars race around the track at NASCAR events and loves to travel in her RV (of course, her husband comes along for the ride also!). Penny, their Australian Cattle Dog ball of energy, tags along for the adventure too. At the clinic, she especially enjoys practical application of her technician skills (catheter placement and surgery assistance).

Double the trouble! The dynamic duo of orange tabby Jack & the handsome tuxedo Figaro accompany Dr. Shauna on some of her shifts. Both of our feline friends are notorious for 'quality control' of any unattended food (necessitating the lock-up of everyone's favourite liver treats!), but can also be found lounging around reception or supervising the rest of our staff. Feel free to say 'hello' to our loafing cats when in!
Kim has been a part of the crew for more years than she'd tell you, and plays a huge role in keeping our Midland office on the straight and narrow. Anaesthesia, nail trims, wound prepping and cleaning - Kim is your woman! She officially took over manager duties for Midland Veterinary Services in 2024. When she is not in clinic (a sad day for us all), Kim loves being out on her boat in the summertime, and spending quality time with her grown-up children, her dogs, and of course, her wonderful partner (who also likes boats, phew!)
